Year 1

World Book Day – March 2022

Hello everyone. Welcome to Year One!

Miss O’Mara will be welcoming you into school at the beginning of each week and Mrs Webber will continue the teaching towards the end of the week. The class is supported by Carmen, Liz and Abbie.

Please make sure PE kits are in school every day. We recommend bringing the kit in at the beginning of a half term and we shall send it home with the children as the half term concludes.

Reading books are regularly changed. Please ensure children have their reading and enjoying books, along with their home/school diaries, every day.

Homework is set every Friday. The homework we set is always linked to what they have been learning that week or to prepare them for the learning in the week ahead. We ask that homework books are returned by Wednesday at the latest, please.

During the month of June, pupils in Year One will complete the Phonics Screening Check. This is where pupils will be required to read up to 40 real and pseudo words. The pupils who score under the threshold set by the government, will need to repeat the screening when in Year 2. We are currently working hard with the pupils to learn and develop their phonics knowledge – if you would like any information on how to support your child at home in phonics or any other area of the curriculum, please feel free to contact the class teachers.
